Aircon Gas Top Up Price in Singapore

In Singapore, aircon gas top up prices range from $40 for a System 1 to $160 for a System 4, with the same flat rate across all three refrigerants: R22, R410A and R32. At Luxury Cool, we offer transparent, no-hidden-cost pricing and same-day service for households across Singapore.

If your aircon is blowing warm air, taking longer than usual to cool the room, or developing ice on the pipes or indoor unit, these may be signs of low refrigerant levels and that a gas top-up is required. Singapore’s hot and humid weather makes a properly functioning aircon essential for everyday comfort, and Luxury Cool can help restore your unit’s cooling performance at an affordable price.

Our Aircon Gas Top-Up Pricing

Luxury Cool provides affordable gas top-up prices for all three refrigerants, R22, R410A, and R32. The only difference is the price for different aircon systems:

Types of Aircon Gas

There are three common types of refrigerants used in aircon units, which we will outline here:

R22 Gas

R22 gas used in air-conditioners is classified as hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC). It is an effective coolant for air-conditioning units and is widely used in older air conditioning systems. However, it has a high global warming potential of 1810 and requires frequent maintenance.

R410 A

R410A gas used in air-conditioners is classified as hydrofluorocarbon (HFC). It is an effective coolant for air-conditioning units and is the standard for residential aircon systems. However, it has a high global warming potential of 1810 and requires higher pressure to operate.

R32

R32 is a next-generation hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerant used in most newer aircon systems. It delivers stronger cooling capacity with a significantly lower global warming potential of 675, making it the most environmentally friendly of the three. R32 is classified as mildly flammable (A2L), so it requires trained technicians to handle safely.

Refrigerant Type & Handling

The refrigerant used for an aircon system should match the type specified by the manufacturer. Proper handling is important during inspection, gas top-up, recovery and servicing to minimise leakage and ensure the system is serviced correctly.

For older aircon systems using R22, the National Environment Agency (NEA) states that Singapore will completely phase out HCFC consumption by 1 January 2030, with annual quota reductions from 2026. As R22 supply reduces, homeowners with older systems may wish to consider whether repeated gas top-ups, leak repair or system replacement is the more practical long-term option.

Signs Your Aircon May Need a Gas Top-Up

How do you know when is the right time to top up your aircon gas? You may want to look for these warning signs:

Aircon Insufficient Cooling

When you feel warm rather than cool air emitted by the unit, this usually tells you that the refrigerant needs immediate topping up.

Formation of ice on indoor units

Low refrigerant levels due to refrigerant leaks may result in ice buildup on evaporator coils. While the ice will melt, it can cause further leaking that gets into your home.

High energy consumption

If your aircon is leaking gas, the system cannot efficiently release cool air. As a result, your aircon will work harder to reach the desired temperature, consuming more energy and raising your electricity bills.

Unusual noises and leaks

If you hear any hissing or whistling noises, it likely means a refrigerant leakage.

What Is The Process of Our Aircon Gas Top-Up?

  1. Inspecting the aircon system: Our technician will meticulously inspect your aircon system for any signs of low refrigerant levels and leaks.
  2. Recovering the remaining refrigerant: R32 is mildly flammable and are harmful to the environment without proper disposal. Our technician will transfer the remaining refrigerant into a refillable cylinder before replacing it with a new one.
  3. Replacing the refrigerant: Our technician will replace the damaged refrigerant with a new one, depending on the refrigerant used.
  4. Topping up the gas: The new refrigerant is added to the aircon system with high precision according to manufacturer specifications so as not to hinder system performance.
  5. Testing the aircon: Our technicians will test the aircon to ensure it operates correctly by checking for efficient cooling, rectifying leaks in the air conditioner, and assessing the overall aircon performance.
  6. Final testing before handover: Our technician will perform final checks before verifying that the aircon operates smoothly and that cold air is emitted from the unit.

How Often Should You Top Up Aircon Gas?

Under normal circumstances, an aircon unit is a closed system, and aircon gas does not easily escape into the surroundings. It may surprise you to know that, ideally, an optimally functioning aircon should not need any topping up throughout its entire lifespan. However, there may still be circumstances in which an aircon gas top-up becomes necessary. When it comes to regular aircon use, an annual maintenance cycle may help to ensure refrigerant levels are healthy and top them up if necessary.

If your aircon’s cooling efficiency seems reduced, or if it is not cooling your home at all, that may be a sign that something is wrong with it. Oftentimes, it could be a refrigerant leak that is causing cooling issues, and topping it up will not be sufficient to resolve the issue. A professional technician will need to examine the unit in detail and address any complications they find to ensure your aircon runs smoothly, including fixing the refrigerant leak (if any).

Myths and Facts of Aircon Gas Top Up

Myth 1: DIY Gas Top-ups Are Possible

Due to the various types of refrigerants, DIY top-ups are not encouraged and should only be performed by a qualified aircon technician. Improperly handling aircon gas can be dangerous to your well-being or may cause significant damage to your aircon. A technician has the technical skills to conduct an aircon gas top-up and ensure your unit performs optimally, so it is best to leave the top-up process to the experts.

Myth 2: Aircon Gas Does Not Influence Energy Efficiency

When your aircon has low refrigerant levels, it can take longer for it to cool your home. The low refrigerant levels force your aircon to work harder, as it cannot reliably remove hot air from your home with insufficient refrigerant. As a result, it draws more power to function, putting it at risk of a costly malfunction or internal damage. Think of aircon gas as the fuel needed to keep your car running optimally throughout its use. It is why you should monitor refrigerant levels regularly to maintain its energy efficiency for as long as possible.

Myth 3: Refrigerant Leaks Are Not a Problem

A refrigerant leak can be harmful to your well-being and poses serious health complications if you accidentally ingest or inhale it. You may not even realise that your aircon is leaking refrigerant until it is too late. If you notice an unusual smell coming from your aircon or its vicinity, it may be a good idea to contact a technician immediately. Once you do so, quickly ventilate your home, and wait somewhere away from the faulty aircon to minimise the risk of refrigerant poisoning.

What Our Customers Say

FAQs

About Aircon Gas Top-Up

Gas is a key component in the cooling process of your aircon. If there isn’t enough gas the system will not cool well, which leads to poor performance, higher energy bills, and also can cause long term damage to the compressor.

Low gas pressure results in poor cooling performance, increased component wear, higher electricity use and in some cases the development of ice on the unit.

No, aircon gas refills are for certified professionals only. Improper do it yourself actions can cause gas leaks, damage to the system, or even injury. At Luxury Cool Singapore we have trained techs that do it safe and accurate.

Common symptoms include poor cooling performance, warm air from the unit, it takes longer to cool the room, or you may see ice on the pipes. If your aircon which used to cool very well is now not performing as it should, it may be low on gas.
